Andraea LaVant wants that understand she’s a lot of things, an income photo of humanity’s great kaleidoscope. She’s a Black woman. A native Midwesterner. A college graduate and business proprietor. A daughter, aunt and buddy.
LaVant can also be among the list of projected 61 million members of the U.S., per national reports, managing a handicap — during her situation, a form of muscular dystrophy referred to as vertebral powerfully built atrophy, or SMA in short. The 37-year-old got recognized at age 2 with an inherited illness that, among other things, impacts the nervous system and voluntary muscles movement.
